PILLAR II:
MENTAL HEALTH

A message from mr. Boghs
Expand University Resources/Policy
EXPAND UNIVERSITY RESOURCES:
We would work to expand "short-term" counseling to long-term counseling.
-
Three sessions → Eight sessions (semesterly)
-
Based off the UTSA model
Students should never have to seek out resources outside of the university, which they’re forced to do with short-term counseling.
EXPAND UNIVERSITY POLICY:
Add undocumented mental health as a reason for absence on the university absence notification request.
-
Mental health is nowhere to be found on this form, which is unacceptable.
In-person Orientation
Mental Health Presentation
“One-third of first-year university students… report symptoms consistent with a diagnosable mental health disorder”

We will work to structure a portion of in-person orientation on mental health, this will include various wellness activities and a mental health presentation given by psychology students.
The transition from high school to college can be a very difficult one. We must acknowledge this fact, and work to provide resources and information to first-years because of this.
