PILLAR  I: DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION

“Financial Aid distribution should be based on the long term potential of the students success. Currently, UT’s financial aid distribution is awarded on a yearly basis based on financial circumstances of the student from the year prior. This process is biased and diverts the students attention from their studies, instead altering their focus on how to maintain a just healthy enough day to day life to be a UT student. Students should instead be focussing on how to exhaust the resources of the university in order to succeed as a student, a professional, and a human being with the goal to experience life and academic success. It is the university’s responsibility to ensure that the resources provided by the campus have the potential to aid students in achieving their long term goals and accomplishments that surpass the horizons of

the 40 Acres.”

Financial aid equity task force

We will implement a financial aid equity task force, under the authority of our appointed Financial Director, who will research disparities in financial aid distribution amongst the minority population at UT.

We will propose a solution to the appropriate authority.

  • More equal disbursement of financial aid → More diversity at UT

The Black and brown student alliance

Create the Black & Brown Student Alliance, modeled after the UT CEA (Civic Engagement Alliance).

Coalition building — bring various
Black and Brown student organizations already on campus together.

  • Bridge the gap → Create community

LEAD Summit: learn, empower, accept, (make a) difference

Establish an annual leadership summit focused on uplifting minority students.

Provide resources to further develop their leadership skills, career readiness, and connectedness to other minority students.
